2006 Bama-Tennessee: My First and Last Away Game

Neutral sites and bowl appearances aside, I have only been to one true road game, and if at least two Tennessee Vols and some Alabama fans have anything to do with it, it will probably be my last. The year was 2006, and the Crimson Tide would enter an obnoxiously orange Neyland Stadium with 5-2 record (that’s right, NCAA, I’m not vacating any wins) with all the potential for a respectable follow-up to the previous year’s 10-2 finish. Little did we know, everything was soon to unravel.

Speaking of things unraveling, so was my life. My relationship at the time was on the verge of falling apart, and my “dream job” had just ended with a thud. Too much stress to endure 500+ miles away from most family and friends, but I’m so thankful for the ones I had nearby. As you can imagine, my schedule was wide open, so I (more…)

Bama-Ole Miss 2001 Heartbreaker for Tide Fans in Oxford

There are some Bama-Ole Miss personal memories I could recount here, but my brother and one of his buddies hates Ole Miss way more than I do. So I’ll share their story here instead. For those who know my brother, they know that he can barely put two sentences together on paper. Actually, that’s an overstatement. He CAN put two sentences together as long as it’s about Alabama football. Anything else, he claims to struggle with. I even wrote a paper for him once as a birthday present. His request.

The story below is his recollection his and his pal Bean’s experience at the Alabama-Ole Miss game of 2001 in his own words:

In October 2001, I will not give the date because you guys will make fun of me for remembering (it’s true, my brother is an Alabama savant), the Crimson Tide was preparing to play Ole Miss.
