Replay Footage from Bama-LSU Missed Call
Lane Kiffin is giving SEC officials an awful lot of credit. Never were his Smokey-like yelps of a conspiracy among the refs to keep Bama and Florida undefeated into the conference championship louder than after his team’s near-miss upset of the Crimson Tide.
When you play well against the No. 1 team in the country but come up a little short, any fifth-grader (or delusional, self-absorbed adult) worth his salt would make excuses. And the more irrational, the better.
The cries, though quieter, resurfaced during the Alabama-LSU game a few weeks ago. The photo above shows the LSU receiver make a grab, which the officials ruled incomplete. When the zebras (more…)

Halloween Allows SEC to Play Dress Up
Most SEC teams are in action today, but if some of their coaches are players were to have a little time to play dress up or even go trick or treating later this evening, what might some of them be?
In the spirit of Halloween, writer Aaron Torres takes a stab at possible costumes for some of our favorite SEC coaches and players. In addition to his suggestions, I’ve added my own. Though some of them aren’t much of a stretch, they would be fitting “disguises” year-round.
The complete article includes lovable characters from some of the “other” conferences as well.
Lane Kiffin: As A Gas Station Attendant
To Lane Kiffin’s credit, he really could pick out anything at the Halloween store and make it work.
A referee’s outfit? No one baits the zebras better. Maybe a Florida windbreaker? He could pretend to be Urban Meyer and complain about the flu. How about grabbing a white glove and dressing like the (more…)

Kiffin Shows His True Colors, Character After Bama Loss
Ever since Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin sank into the cesspool known as Knoxville, he’s made enough empty promises to fill Neyland Stadium. When the most high profile of those vows – singing Rocky Top all night long after beating Florida – wasn’t fulfilled, Kiffin suddenly developed the whine flu. At first they were isolated outbreaks, only flaring up after a loss to or a chance to launch a jab at Florida coach Urban Meyer. But after the near-miss at upsetting Bama, the virus is spreading throughout the Land of Orange.
The post-game comments bashing the Gators aside, Kiffin seemed, at least for him, to possibly be cleaning up his act. During the Vols bye and week leading up to playing Alabama, the Mouth of the South had nothing but (more…)

I don’t know about you, but I learned a little more about just how much I love college football last weekend. When faced with the dilemma of choosing between watching the Auburn-Kentucky game or the Alabama-South Carolina game, I chose both. The logic of my party was that the Bama game would be over early, making Auburn-Kentucky the obvious choice. But even if Alabama were leading South Carolina (or whomever) by 60 points, then I’d still want to watch every play. Unfortunately, that scenario didn’t play out, but thanks to the television, cables and splitter I provided, we were able to see it for ourselves.
Perhaps I was in some sort of euphoric state by being surrounded by great SEC football, but at times I felt as if I couldn’t keep up with one game, let alone two. Had the Tide been in more control of their game, I (more…)

Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Zebras Play God with Outcome
For several years now, I’ve constructively pointed out to the refs that perhaps they needed to review and perhaps reconsider the questionable calls they have made. This does not include the obviously correct calls with negative consequences on Alabama. (See, I’m not a completely irrational fan.) The criticism is often in the form of an emphatic “Refs suck!” or “Bite me, refs!” Often, my fellow fans will join in expressing their displeasure.
Perhaps it’s a function of improved technology or maybe the collective conscience of the zebras has evolved. But admissions of poor judgement seem to be increasing. In just the last three weeks, one particular SEC wrecking crew has ‘fessed up to late-in-the-game calls that (more…)

Cheering Leaves "Vocal" Impression on Cats, Bama Fans
As the Crimson Tide’s contest with Kentucky approaches, I don’t have to go back too far in time to recall a memorable matchup between these two. Other than last year’s game, I’d be hard pressed to even remember another game. Except, of course, in basketball.
I have the good fortune of working closely with a publishing company based in Tuscaloosa as part of my job. And luckily for me 🙂 they have a skybox in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Even after being their guest for several A-Days and a couple of tense games, they still are kind enough to welcome me back. In part, I think I’m there for entertainment value, which I’ll cover here in this recollection.
Few people would have predicted the Cinderella-like season Alabama had last year. But with each week (more…)
